New Library Hours Effective July 7, 2025

As part of our commitment to keeping all Allegany County Library branches open, we’ve made some changes to our hours of operation.

Most libraries are now open longer hours on the days they operate, and for the first time in many years, every region—Cumberland, LaVale, Frostburg, and Western Allegany—now has weekend hours.

These changes reflect usage patterns, staff availability, and community needs.

Why did the library hours change?

The hours changed at all ACLS libraries so that the library system could continue to offer library service at all six locations.

What’s the biggest change?

All ACLS libraries, except the Westernport Library, will now be CLOSED on Mondays.

Are these hours permanent or temporary?

These are our new standard hours.

How were the new hours decided? Was there community input?

Based on recent patterns of use as well as community feedback, we worked to maximize library access across the county within available resources.

How will the new hours affect programs and room reservations?

Some programs and reservations may need to be rescheduled to adjust for the new hours. Please check our online calendar or with library staff.

When will the Westernport Library reopen?

There is no set date yet, but we’re hopeful for a reopening this fall.

Can I return books to a branch that is closed on certain days?

Yes. All book drops remain open even when branches are closed.

Did the change in hours affect staffing or services?

Staff schedules have shifted, but core library services remain available across all locations.
