Mission:
The Allegany County Library System enriches and improves the lives of the people in our community.

Goal:
By 2022, library staff members will grow and flourish while playing their part in achieving the library system’s mission. We will grow and flourish by feeling good, doing good, and adding value to the world. We will create the best possible future by transcending self interest enough to share and celebrate goodness in others and in the world around us.

Objective 1:
ACLS Encourages Reading

  • Each year of the plan, ACLS and library staff will actively work to increase access to our facilities and resources and to reduce barriers to reading.
  • Each year of the plan, ACLS will work to increase wages, to attract and retain qualified staff to carry out our mission.
  • Each year of the plan, library staff members will take on greater responsibility for their own success in carrying out the library mission.
  • Each year of the plan , library staff members will set their own goals as to how they can contribute toward the library’s mission and self assess their performance as part of their annual review.
  • By January 2019, ACLS will develop guidelines and standards for branch displays and “point of sale” material promotions.
  • By January 2021, and if funds are available, ACLS will conduct a community survey to determine the most desired means to encourage reading.
  • By January 2022, based on the results of the community survey, ACLS will begin planning to modify our operations to the desired means to encourage reading.
