The public health emergency has restricted our ability to offer the traditional Summer@Your Library event series.  In response to the current state of emergency in Maryland, we have modified our events to respect social distancing and recommendations on public gatherings.  This summer you will be able to enjoy online story times and crafting activities as well as special online events!  The ACLS Story Corps is also planning special outdoor story times that will be announced soon.  Please visit our website www.alleganycountylibrary.info for more information about these special upcoming events.

Summer Reading Programs were originally designed by public libraries to help elementary-aged students avoid summer learning loss by encouraging them to read during the months they were out of school with engaging programs and incentives.  The Summer Reading Program, now Summer@Your Library, has grown to include programs and prizes for all ages-children, tweens, teens, and adults-making it a true community-wide activity.

Summer@Your Library is made possible through the generous sponsorship of local and corporate sponsors.

Q: With the library buildings “closed,” how will Summer@Your Library work this year?

Starting in July, regular virtual programs, including Story Times and programs for teens and adults, will be available on the library’s social media channels and website. Starting in late June and running through the beginning of August, the ACLS Story Corps will host outdoor story times twice a week at alternating parks throughout the county.
