Summer with Your Library 2022: Oceans of Possibilities!

Our libraries are gearing up for Summer with your Library!  We’re shaking things up this year with new ways to participate and more chances to win!  We’ve also planned some exciting events and activities like Storybook Strolls for families, Paint & Sips for adults, and sound clip trivia for teens! Pick up an event schedule now available at any of the libraries or download one here!

Visit your Library!

Fill out an entry ticket and place it into the Fish Bowl to enter our weekly raffles. With each visit, be sure to enter this weekly drawing. The fish bowls are emptied and entries are restarted every week, but all entries are entered into our grand prize drawing sweepstakes!

Play Summer Reading Bingo!

The bingo boards have reading challenges like “Read a book…that has ocean creatures in it, that takes place on a beach, that has magic,” etc. After June 13th, they will be available to download and print below or at any of the library branches. Adults and teens can pick up a free tote bag with the bingo board and kids can return a bingo board to choose a free book. All returned bingo boards will be entered into the sweepstakes drawing for our grand prizes. You can submit more than one bingo board, but additional bingo boards need to be complete to be eligible for extra sweepstakes entries.

Story Time in the Park

Outdoor Story Times will start again this summer with Story Times in parks across the county with the first one at 10 AM on June 14 at the Constitution Park Amphitheater. See the full schedule and get ready for some fun in the sun!

Teens, join our Discord

Connect with other teens in the area for our online events on Discord! For teens 13-18, discord is a free, online “invite-only” platform. Discord servers are organized into topic-based channels where you can collaborate, share, and just talk about your day without clogging up a group chat. It also offers a great platform for online, multiplayer gaming. Allegany County Library System staff will moderate the space to keep it safe and inviting!

Summer Reading Programs were originally designed by public libraries to help elementary-aged students avoid summer learning loss by encouraging them to read. Our Summer Reading Programs have grown to include programs and prizes for all ages-tweens, teens, and adults, making it a true community-side, family -friendly program. In our community, the libraries have become more important than ever. We touch the lives of so many members of the community and strive to help even more.

In 2021, we held story times and events at 11 outdoor locations throughout the count to ensure safe, socially distanced, family friendly programs. During our 28 outdoor programs, we had over 1,500 people in attendance. Because of support from our community partners and sponsors, every child in attendance went home with a free book and pre-packaged craft at Story Times. We also held 14 additional virtual events, got our steps in at story walks, painted pet portraits for the Animal Shelter, and enjoyed theatrical performances!
