LaVale Cookbook Group

Where: LaVale Library at Meeting Room

If you enjoy cooking, talking about food and trying new foods- then this is the group for you! The Cookbook Group meets the third Monday of every month at 6:00PM in the LaVale Library Community Room.

At each meeting, the group shares food and recipes based on a fun theme. Guests are invited but not required to bring a dish. If you choose to share something yummy, please bring your own serving utensil. Cups, plates, napkins and cutlery will be provided.

The themes for the coming months are, May- Tea and Cookies, with special guest Linda LoPrinzi Day; June- Brunch Foods; July- Red, White and Blue foods; August- Canning and Preserving with special guest speaker Lisa McCoy.

The Cookbook Group is free and open to the public.

Summer@Your Library: Tall Tales!

Award-winning storytellers Katie and Otto Ross will perform tall tales and music from Appalachian history. You've never heard local history this way before!
The Ross's style of performance weaves stories-both ancient and personal- and music together with audience participation.
Katie and Otto have performed at the Frostburg State University Appalachian Festival and are members of the the West Virginia Storytelling Guild, Kentucky Storytelling Association and the Virginia Storytelling Alliance.
This event is free and open to the public.

West Virginia Storytelling Guild Story Swap

Are you interested in sharing your story and listening to others' stories in a relaxed and informal setting?
The West Virginia Storytelling Guild invites you to take part in the annual Story Swap taking place at The LaVale Library on Saturday, September 28.

The story swap will begin at 10 a.m. and run til 12 p.m. During this part of the day, new participants may share a story among others in a non-threatening environment.
Following a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., (lunch not provided) the group will reconvene and tellers will share stories during a free event open to the public.

Author Visit with Judy Stone

Dr. Judy Stone, the daughter of Hungarian survivors of Auschwitz and Dachau, tells the story of her family's strength and resilience during some the most horrific events of the twentieth century. Join her as she shares how they survived and rebuilt their lives, focusing on hope and the good people they found.
