Dr. FrankenMaker's Lab: Bring Your Creature To Life!

When: Wednesday, May 01, 2019 - 5:00 PM
Where: George's Creek Library at Meeting Room

Dr. FrankenMaker invites you to his lab to explore the newest technology to bring your creatures to life! Young FrankenMakers first design their creature in TinkerCAD, following the specific parameters set by Dr. FrankenMaker himself. Once the designing is finished, each creature is sent to the 3-D printer to be brought to life!** FrankenMakers also have the opportunity to travel into virtual reality through Oculus Rift to sculpt and paint using "Medium."

This program is a cutting edge STEAM program designed to introduce kids to art and technology that is not only fascinating and fun, but associated with growth industries, such as movies, game design, virtual reality, engineering and additive manufacturing.


**Creatures will be ready for pick-up at the library of participation or at the Allegany Arts Council within a week.

This free program is offered by the Allegany Arts Council with support from United Way, Allegany Public Library System, and the Maryland State Arts Council.

All participants must be aged 8-13 to participate and must register through the Allegany Arts Council by calling 301.777.2787 or emailing skennedy@alleganyarts.org

Indie Film Night with MPT: "Wrestle"

AHEC West Diabetes & Prevention Program, for ages 18 and and older. The Diabetes Prevention Program includes lessons, handouts, and other resources to help you make healthy changes. A lifestyle coach, specially trained to lead the program, to help you learn new skills, encourage you to set and meet goals, and keep you motivated. You will learn to eat better without having to give up the foods you love and add physical activity such as taking a walk to your weekly schedule. The coach will also facilitate discussions and help make the program fun and engaging. A support group of people with similar goals and challenges. Together, you can share ideas, celebrate successes, and work to overcome obstacles. In some programs, the participants stay in touch with each other during the week. It may be easier to make changes when you’re working as a group than doing it on your own.

To be eligible for the Diabetes Prevention Program, there is some eligibility criteria. Someone could be either diagnosed with prediabetes from their provider or they can take a “self-assessment” quiz. The quiz is really easy. For your online registration form, could you reference the online quiz from the CDCs website? The language to reference it can say: “Find out if you are at risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Come and enjoy a movie under the stars in the beautiful backyard of the George's Creek Library. We will be watching the family baseball movie, "The Rookie." Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Please bring your lawn chair.
