POSITION: Services and Events Specialist- LaVale
SALARY RANGE: Grade 3, $13.65- $19.11 an hour, 35 hours weekly. LaVale Branch
Grade 4 $14.47- $20.25 an hour 35 hours a week, LaVale Branch

NATURE OF WORK: The Services and Event Specialist works at the LaVale Library under the supervision of the Service Leader to achieve branch and system goals. The Services and Event Specialist is part of the
library branch and the Department of Public Services. The Services and Event Specialist works with the Service Leader to balance their time and workload between direct patron and materials duties (like checking out materials, reshelving, and processing holds) and LaVale Library events and programs (like
hosting a Tech Hour event). At the desk, the Services and Event Specialist is the “face” of the library. They work at the service desk where materials are checked in/out and elsewhere in the library where user questions are answered. They also instruct and guide library users to make the best use of library collections, technology, online resources, and facilities. In addition to all the duties at the service desk, this position assists in offering a broad range of events, programs, and partnerships that address the needs
and desires of all sectors of the community and ACLS. The Services and Event Specialist works with the Service Leader and Coordinator of Events and Programming to host events and programs that broaden the impact of local services to engage, improve, and enhance the community.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be committed to using library collections, technology, online
resources and facilities as a community hub to improve and engage the community. Must be curious and courageous so that the LaVale library exemplifies a “growth mindset” for the system and community. Must be a flexible and dependable coworker who helps colleagues work through issues and maintains focus on providing fair and equitable service to everyone. Must be able to work with a demanding public. Must be flexible, attentive to detail, and willing to work with a diverse public. Must be able to use computers, the internet, mobile devices, and other equipment to complete work and manage assignments. Must be able to complete daily activities while making consistent progress on larger projects. Must be a self starter, who exercises initiative and independent judgment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience. Successful completion of the LATI Certificate program.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Regular evening and weekend work required. Physical capability
to effectively use and operate various library equipment related to successful job performance. Significant standing, walking, carrying, bending, reaching and handling, pushing and pulling. Requires physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and carry (up to 25 lbs) over 60% of the time; and extensive use of a
computer terminal. Ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to maintain composure in a work environment serving the public. Overtime may be required. Ability to successfully attend meetings at various library facilities and driving records will be evaluated as a condition of using library vehicles and
