Volunteer Policy and Procedure
ACLS welcomes and appreciates individuals who would like to volunteer their time to assist the library fulfill its mission.
Eligibility and Application Process:
- Anyone who is interested in volunteering at ACLS must complete a volunteer application.
- All Volunteer applications must be submitted to Human Resources for consideration
- Human Resources will work with The Coordinator of Branch Services and the Service Leader to determine the need and requirements of the volunteer
- The length of time the volunteer may assist the library will be at the discretion of the Service Leader.
- The minimum age requirement is 13 years of age.
- Service Leaders will interview participants to determine if they are able to perform the tasks safely and successfully.
- Currently employee of ACLS may not volunteer
- Human Resources will perform a Judiciary Search on the candidate
- ACLS reserves the right to terminate the volunteering assignment at any time with or without cause or notice.
- Unless pre approved by Human Resources volunteers are not allowed in patron records.
Approved Volunteers:
- If the volunteer is approved, Human Resources will notify the Service Leader and ask them to contact the volunteer to set up a start date and schedule.
- On their first day of volunteering the volunteer will:
- Be given the job description and The Volunteer Handbook
- A Signature will be required for both documents to proceed
- The signs documents will be sent to HR
- Be given the job description and The Volunteer Handbook
- The Service Leader will give the volunteer a tour of the building and introduce them to all the staff.
- The Service Leader will meet and discuss with the volunteer their expectations while volunteering for ACLS
- Be given a volunteer badge to be worn at all times while on ACLS property
- The volunteer will be given the shelving guide and quiz before they are permitted to shelve.
This policy will also serve as the policy for internships and other various partnerships.
