The Allegany County Library System is thrilled to collaborate with the Allegany Arts Council for the dedication of a stunning new public art project funded by the Public Art Across Maryland grant. The dedication ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the LaVale Library.

This transformative project, featuring the work of local artists Steven Fiscus and Jeff Dardozzi, brings a unique blend of functionality and artistic expression to the LaVale Library’s outdoor patio. The space is designed to be a welcoming area for community gatherings, book readings, and entertainment events, enhancing both the library’s aesthetic appeal and its role as a cultural hub.

The public is invited to attend the dedication, where speakers will discuss the impact of public art on the community, the value of integrating art into public spaces, and the inspiration behind the artists’ work. The event will feature live music, refreshments, and an opportunity to engage with the artists.

As part of this celebration, the LaVale Library will also be offering an engaging children’s activity. From October 7th through 19th, children are encouraged to visit the library to craft their own colorful sun catchers, inspired by the vibrant glasswork in the patio’s design. These creations will be proudly displayed during the dedication ceremony, adding a touch of local youth artistry to the evening.

Funding for the project was made possible by a Public Art Across Maryland grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, with additional support from private donor Sandi Saville.
