Taste of Civility 2023
Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at LaVale Library
After a hiatus due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the much-anticipated Taste of Civility event is making a return on December 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the LaVale Library. Presented by Choose Civility: Allegany County and its partners, this event aims to build on the success of its previous celebrations in 2018 and 2019.
The Taste of Civility event, known for celebrating Allegany County’s cultural diversity, is open to all. Using music, song, and story-telling, local presenters will share their holiday traditions, highlighting diverse cultures and ethnicities in our area. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish, break bread together, get to know their neighbors, share their family traditions, broaden perspectives, and learn about the enriching cultures that make up our community.
Providing a platform for individuals from different cultures to share their stories, music, art, poetry, and food, the program aims to foster an open-minded understanding of diverse perspectives. By promoting mutual respect across cultural differences, the Taste of Civility seeks to create an environment where everyone can thrive and encourages recognition of the positive contributions diverse cultures bring to enrich the lives of those in Allegany County.
Join us on December 19 at 6:00 p.m. for an evening of cultural exploration and a shared commitment to rebuilding a more harmonious community. This event is co-hosted by the Allegany County Library System, Allegany County NAACP Branch 7007, Allegany College of Maryland, Allegany Commission for Women, Friends of the LaVale Library, and Frostburg State University.
