The American Presidency Series

April 16, 2020 6:00 PM The American Presidency: In Portraiture

Take an imaginary trip to the National Portrait Gallery and the White House with Rolfe Singerman to view paintings of all 45 presidents. Inspect the first image of a president captured in the early days of the daguerreotype, how painters and photographers chose to memorialize the  presidents and how cartoonists through the decades depicted the Commander in Chief.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Washington Street Library will be hosting a lecture and discussion series. In recognition of the current election year, each presentation in 2020 will center on an interesting historical aspect of the American Presidency.

The Friends of the Washington Street Library group was formed three years ago as a way to support the library through fundraising activities, event planning and hosting, and improvement projects. The group also advocates for library services and promotes greater awareness of the library throughout the community. Since its inception the Washington Street Library Friends group has funded new bookcases, additional periodicals for patron use, refurbishment of the stairs to the 2nd floor, materials for youth clubs at the library, the reading challenge and summer activity program and the new entrance and ongoing remodeling of the children’s library.
